Things we learned this off season
Each year after the summer Char and I like to sit down and talk about what lessons we learned.
This year was no different.
During the summer, or what we like to call the Off Season, we train over 100 kids a week.
From professional athletes to kids as young as 9 to athletes in their 60's we have a large variety of people to learn from!
So here are some of the things we learned this year...
Gain momentum early. Those athletes that front loaded their training got off to a great start....and created momentum that lasted the entire summer.
Time fly's so you better make sure your the pilot. The summer literally flew by. Those athletes that had a good grasp of their life's "steering wheel" made the best gains.
For young athletes the Off Season is about creating positive training habits.
Our observation is that the bifurcation of athletes is happening at an earlier and earlier age.
In season training. Those athletes (13-22) that came from a positive and well rounded In-Season training program made better gains then those that didn't. This was due to a lower 'learning' curve and more training effects.
All athletes love to play games for warm-up. We often used the same games for all of our athletes...and all of them enjoyed the games.
